Executive Pastor
Though born in Columbia, South Carolina, Andy has spent the better part of his life in the Raleigh area. He lived in Wilmington, North Carolina for 14 years starting in 1979. He moved back to the Raleigh area in 1993 after the death of his first wife from breast cancer.
God blessed Andy with his wife Shelly, and their son Peyton. They started attending Faith Baptist Church in 1996 and Andy surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in 2001. Since then, he has been serving in different areas of the church as he has grown spiritually. His involvement began in the prayer ministry, and later became a substitute teacher in the Sunday school class he and Shelly attended.
God began to burden Andy’s heart for men and the struggles and challenges they faced, since he had experienced this first hand. Not long after that, he began teaching men’s series during the week, and has written two studies (Ten Steps to the Finish Line and From a Man’s Man to God’s Man), which he also taught here at Faith. Because of his love for teaching, and the growth of the church, Andy and Shelly were asked to start a new adult Sunday School class. A few years later they were asked to take over the College and Career class which quickly grew, and was then turned over to another couple who had a passion for this age group. “What a blessing it has been to be able to serve with my wife by my side,”
As Andy’s passion grew for ministry, he began slowing down in the business world to devote more time to serving. He sold his first company in 2003 and then answered God’s call to leave the business world altogether and sold his last company in April of 2005 to devote his life to ministry. Andy continued his studies in biblical counseling so he would be better equipped to fulfill the call that God placed on his life.
Andy started as a volunteer on staff, then to a part time position as Men’s ministry director as well as counseling director. In 2010 God opened a door for Andy to assume the role as Director of Finance and Administration as well as Family Life Ministries Director, in 2016 Andy assumed the role of Executive Pastor. In addition to his other ministry responsibilities, Andy has a heart for discipleship and relational issues. Andy says, “We are called to stay the course and run the race with perseverance. I want to help all I can, any way I can.”
